Worksheet Wednesday Freebie

This week's Worksheet Wednesday has a theme- and that theme is Back to School since it's the last week of The Teaching Tribune's summer blogging linky party series. Although I only joined a few, I really loved taking part and finding so many resources. Two for Tuesday and Worksheet Wednesday were my favorite. I definitely spend way too much money on Tuesdays but I got some awesome swag yesterday. Luckily today is freebies!

My freebie is for Back to School Night or Open House. I like having the parents write their children in my class a note for the kiddos to discover the next day in their desk (Back to School night at my school means the kids typically come without their parents). The kids love it and it keeps the parents busy during the rotations (I'm used to entertaining kids for extended periods of time, not adults!).

Click here to snag this monster-themed freebie from my Teachers Pay Teachers store. All my other Open House/Back to School Night papers are free as well, so check those out too!

VA is for Bloggers - Southern Hospitality Freebie Blog Hop

Welcome to Virginia!

Virginia is for Lovers Bloggers!

A bunch of us Virginia bloggers are bringing in the new school year by extending a bit of southern hospitality.  You can follow along the blog hop to visit 20+ Virginia teacher blogs for terrific teaching tips and fun freebies to help get your new school year off to a great start.

At the end of this post, you'll be able to see everyone who's a part of this blog hop! Pick one of us Virginians to start with and roll through all of our blogs to collect a ton of great freebies, ideas and resources!

The freebie I have today is one that is perfect for back to school! The activity is simple but it's a great way to kick off the school year in writing.

I always start the year by reading and passing around a book called "Amelia's Notebook." It's a great mentor text for writing because it's fun and shows how students can tie in their personality to their fiction and nonfiction writing. The kiddos have really been excited about writing when we start off the year with this book.

This is Amelia's Notebook and it's a series so there are multiple books!
So then the next step is for the kiddos to begin their writing notebooks. I know that an empty notebook can be daunting to a fourth grader, so the first page of our writing notebook is our Heart Map. We fill in each space of the heart with something that is important to us that we can later reference to get ideas for a story.

The example on the right was made by one of my students that was so creative but told me on the first day of school that he hated writing and reading. I like to think that starting the year off with a fun, artistic activity made him hate writing just a little bit less.

Click on the images to grab this freebie from my Teachers Pay Teachers store! I love receiving feedback on freebies, it helps me make my freebies even better!

You can also enter into this giveaway to win 3 products from my TPT store! That's right! You win, you choose!

Here's some of the products you could grab for free if you win!

New Product, Freebie to 3 and Upcoming Giveaway!

As of today, I have a brand-spankin'-new product in my tpt store! If you're teaching rounding, need to review rounding or will be teaching it later in the year, this is the product for you! It's a rounding card game and you can use it multiple ways. I use it as a fun center game during math class. I also plan on using it throughout the year just to review. All you have to do is print and it's ready to go. There's even an answer sheet for students to record their answers on. Then when all the hard work is over, students can play "war" with the cards. Super fun.

The first three people to leave a comment with their email will get this game for FREE! Yay free things.

Speaking of free things, this blog is SO close to having 100 followers. I am so, so, so excited. I am loving all of my followers and I have had so much blogspiration and teach-spiration from all of your ideas. It has really transformed my teaching. I am loving my job even more because I'm always participating in different linky parties and everything.

ANYWHOO, I am going to host a 100 followers giveaway. There's still time, so if you'd like to contribute, you can leave a comment here with your contact info or you can email me at fourthgradelemonade@gmail.com. I have already been amazed by the generosity of all of my bloggy friends. Love it!

Flashback Freebie

Lisa from Learning is Something to Treasure is having a brilliant linky party. It's called flashback freebie!

So the flashback freebie that I want to feature on this blog post is one of my math freebies from my TPT store. Right now in fourth grade we are reviewing ordering numbers. In my teachers pay teachers store, you will find an Ordering Decimals packet for free. My kiddos loved this when I used it last year.

I pass out these cards to students (the packet comes with 18 cards) and the students are asked to sort them from greatest to least, or least to greatest. You can give each student 18 cards or give one student one card and make this a class activity.

When students are finished putting the cards in order from greatest to least (or vice versa) you can have them partner up and play "war" with the cards. War is a card game where both of the students have a pile of cards facing down. At the same time, both students pull the top card off their deck and put it face up in front of them. The card with the highest value wins.

So please download this product from my teachers pay teachers store for free!

My Favorite Freebie

Cynthia from 2nd Grade Pad is having a great linky party today! The idea is to feature your favorite freebie creation and then link up. So here it goes..

My favorite freebie that I have is my How We Get Home Organizer.

I use this in my classroom and it is displayed near the door. I love it because right now it's helping me remember when each student gets dismissed. It will be super useful when I have a substitute because he or she will be able to reference it with ease. But the part I think works best is that the names are not permanently written on a list so they can change. I know I've had a few students change their method of getting home halfway between the year. Instead of printing out a whole new sheet (which I would never remember to do!) I have each of their names taped near the title for how they get home. So if I need to move Sally from Car to Walk, I easily can!

And this freebie is great for all grade levels, which makes it even better IMO :)

I don't have a picture of the finished product with the names hanging beside the bigger circles, but I do have it hanging on my wall from before school started. All I did was cut out all the pieces and glue the four circles and the title on the ribbon. I also have different titles on the freebie download through TpT.

Parent Handouts for Open House

Open House Week

Today is Parent Handout day with the TBA Open House linky party... Our back to school night is tomorrow! These are some of the handouts that I will have for the parents to sign up and take home. These handouts are for Open House, Back to School Night, Parent Night or whatever your school calls it!

The first handout is our e-mail newsletter. I send home a monthly newsletter and this year I want to make that an e-mail newsletter for our parents who sign up. I just think it would be more efficient and effective!

So here is my cute monster-themed email sign-up. You can download it by clicking {here}.

This next handout is just your standard sign-in sheet. Click {here} to download!

I am going to do a raffle this year at the Open House. The lucky winner will get a small prize package of fun school supplies! So the parents will fill out their name and their child's name and then put it in a bowl and I will choose the winner after the Open House. The raffle sign up sheet can be found {here}.

Finally I always have parents write their student a letter to put in the student's desk. I remember my dad did that when I was in third grade while he was waiting to have my parent conference and it was so special. This handout is {here}.
